The Elvas DOP Plums (denomination from protected origin) are one of the oldest and most typical sweets from the Alto Alentejo region. The recipe consists in the transformation of Rainha Cláudia plums. From the historical point of view, this kind of plum is orginally from France. The name Rainha Cláudia was given in honor of the daughter of Kinf Louis XII, the Duchess of Britain. The plums recipe was part of the recipes of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Convent or the Dominicanas in Elvas. Initially they were only made in the convents of the region, being a privilege of the richest families where they were part of the most fancy feasts. We took this original recipe from a company with more than 20 years of experience in the plum production, that mantains all the characteristics of an artesian product. Product of Alentejo, certified by Agricert that makes this plums the best and most tempting in the world. The plums are very used today for the convent sweets production and for some dishes or just to be tasted simply.
